Default Metformin Side Effectd

Hi all-

I'm newly type 2. 500mg Metformin 2x/ day. I'm about to stop taking it because it seems the side effects (severe nausea, aching all over, lethargic) are getting worse, not better. I've got a bad GI system anyhow and already on Zofran aabf Protonix. Can something else be added to taking Metformin that counteracts the side effects! Thanks for your help. Mark

I strongly suggest you talk with your doctor about your reactions to metformin, which is first-line drug for Type 2 diabetics. You may also want to look at the drugs you're taking (all of them) to see if taking them all or in combination will cause reactions like you're describing. The Internet is full of info, so be careful; your doc will want to know about your reaction, that's for sure.

Make sure you take metformin with food. When I first took it, my doc asked if I had any loss of appetite. I had a funny taste in my mouth, but it didn't bother me that much. Check the sheet that came with your drugs, too.

Sorry to be redundant, but let your doc know. If he or she doesn't pay attention to you or believe you, it's time to find another physician. Good luck, and don't give up.
