Lantus is a long-acting insulin and I assume that you are taking it once per day as your basal dosage. 30 units over the course of the day is not too much insulin for many people, however it may be for some, especially if they are insulin sensitive.
There is a thread, on the Type 1 Section, dedicated to helping you set your basal dosage correctly. I hope that the information is helpful.
