But even still I eat very healthy, I'm a marathoner, I work out how in the hell did I come up with diabetes and people I know who are grossly obese and don't care for themselves are fine.....jeez this sucks.....Just me venting.

Welcome to the Forum!

Read the first three threads in the Type 2 Section, when you get a chance, if you have not already done so. These threads contain some very good information, that may help you. Good luck with your control and management.

Adult onset diabetes can occur type 1 or type 2. As an adult developing type 1 it typically is an auto immune response. Your body's White blood cells that fight. Infections malfunctions basically and kills the isolet cells of the pancreas that produces insulin so you become a diabetic. There was nothing you could have done about it. I'm in the same boat I became a diabetic 6 yrs ago healthy as a horse never sick or anything then bam. Type 2 diabetics typically are overweight and have a sedentary life style. To understand how insulin works think of insulin as a key. The key unlocks cell doors to allow sugar in. When a person becomes obese the fat doesn't allow the insulin to enter to the cell of the body doesn't know how to properly use the insulin it has. I'm a 20 yr Paramedic and Instructor so kinda get to see all aspects of it.
