Wheat Belly
I just finished this book "Wheat Belly" by William Davis. As you can imagine from the title, the author places the blame for obesity, celiac and diabetes directly with our obsession with wheat. There are long chapters devoted to why the wheat of today is not the wheat of previous generations and the scientific engineering has had serious consequences on the chemical make up and properties of the wheat that is grown today.
I believe that his research is relevant and thorough. The ultimate recommendation is to eliminate ALL wheat from the diet and watch your body repair itself and eliminate the need for any diabetic medicines. I have been without wheat for three days now and have never had so many normal BG readings. I plan on continuing and aim to eliminate all my medicines. |

That is a really good decision you have made. If you have no problem in quitting wheat then you should do that.

great book - I'm also mostly gluten free.
you might be interested in the Paleo diet as well (I'm personally not a fan because it doesn't match my lifestyle, but it mostly shuns grains of all kinds using similar evidence) keep in mind that your BGs are probably more stable because of the decrease of complex carbohydrates in general. as an athlete, carbs are necessary for me - I'm 100% against low carb diets because I think they're misleading. cut out carbs from processed foods? fine, but there's nothing wrong with carbs from fruits and vegetables. I think everyone, diabetics and non-diabetics alike, would do well from a mostly plant based diet. you might be interested in the documentary Forks Over Knives. that was a real eye opener for me. |

Yeah I love wheat stuff and amazingly coincidentally I have not had wheat for 5-1/2 days (vacationing at family's house who shun wheat). I've been at 200-300 bg for months and now it just floats at 115-120 every day on half the insulin I was using. So I guess this is problem for me. Upped my veggies and some nuts to take place of my wheat-y stuff

Wheat Belly does promote the good carbs such as veggies and also fruits but no an abundance of all kind of fruit since some fruits do have a lot of sugars and promotes protein and various nuts. It's really a very simple way if eatting and basic. I have been on it since the end of April and been losing slowly but as long as I'm losing and my blood sugars are better that's great! One problem I do have is when I get up in the morning my blood sugar is high 140-160 then it goes down good during the day... Any suggestions until I go to the docs 2 weeks from now.. What about Chromium. 200 mg was on dr oz anyone?

Low carb does not equal NO carb! And guess where we get our carbs from - vegetables! Don't bash something if you haven't bothered to learn about it!

Carbs are necessary for all of us and can be gotten from everything we eat in some qty. . Wheat Belly is against using wheat and grains because of their genetic modifications since paleo times I found many diets simply have more carbs included than many of us really need

Processed Carbohydrates
If you are Type 2 and you want normal blood sugar readings fast, just eliminate ALL processed food. This will pretty much take care of blood sugar spikes and the resulting insulin dumps=weight gain. Of course this will eliminate all wheat in the process. If you exercise at least 30 minutes a day--preferably first thing in the morning--you will also drop any extra weight fast. Not everyone can give up their crack (wheat) and it isn't easy. After a couple of weeks, however, the benefits will outweigh everything else and the cravings do subside. A lot of folks are not necessarily gluten intolerant pre se, but the majority of the population does have a reaction to modern day Dwarf Mutant variety wheat. For me, my nose is no longer stopped up every morning and indigestion and acid reflux are a thing of the past. My morning blood sugar is now usually 89-96 with no medication.

The only carbs we need are leafy greens and we need them because of their phytonutrients. We don't need carbs at all. Our body turns protein to glucose when we need glucose for the function of the brain. The Inuit Eskimos eat only meat and fat!
