Default Changing Meters - Medicare/Insurance?

Companies advertise that you can get a new meter free. I guess they just bill your medicare or insurance and you get hooked on buying supplies from them. What happens when you don't like the new meter and want to use your old one and need supplies for it? Will medicare/insurance cover supplies for the old meter then? Is is a complicated process going back to the old one?

Anybody with any comments or experience on this?

-Ron

Default Insurance coverage

Each company if different. Call them and ask which meters they cover. Medicare is not as bad, but only can ger 50 strips a month...so you might want to get a meter like Reli On (Walmart ) consumer reports they are very accurate and as good as major names. Strips are much cheaper. You'd need a perscriptionf from the doctor for whatever strips you buy to have insurance or medicare cover it. Medicare will cover more if you are on insulin and then if you have insurance as well they may cover it, but not if only on oral meds. Only Medicare will pay a portion and you get hit with the rest. County nurses may have free meters and starter strips as do some pharmacies.

Default How many times

How many times a day did your dr say to test ? My dr told me to test 3 to 4 times a day. That way they will cover more test strips a month. With winter coming if you get snowed in.

Default

I talked to my company and requested not to change meters. They may have been a little unhappy about it but I believe they had to comply and they did. They do bill Medicare for the equipment we receive from them.
