I use the no alcohol version I believe it's called zero. Haven't tested before and after with either though.

From what I understand, the carbs in alcohol DON'T convert to glucose....but in mixed drinks, all the "mixers" and soda-7/up-Sierra Mist etc ARE high in sugar & carbs.
eta: I know you're talking about mouth-wash but whenever I see that part about alcohol not converting it's always followed by the tid-bit about the mixers.... Last edited by msmarginalized; 03-08-2013 at 08:25 PM. Reason: clarify |

Yes I have. I use the Walmart version if listerine and I noticed that it did affect my fasting levels.

Ok so I read this post and decided to do my own test. I tested my fasting morning BG yesterday and it was 114 and I went and brushed my teeth and used Listerine Total and 45 minutes later my BG was 127 (still fasting). So my 1st thought was your right! So today I checked my fasting morning BG and it was 125 I waited another hour (still fasting) and I DIDN'T brush my teeth OR use the Listerine yet and my glucose was still rising, it went up to 142! Almost 20 points and I've not put anything in my mouth yet!! So I'm not convinced that its the mouthwash. Anyone have any idea why my BG is still rising upon waking up?

Well, you never mention what your bg is before you go to bed. So start there, and consider the meds you're on, and your C-Peptide. Are you insulin dependent? Are you on a combo of oral and insulin? What are you eating before bed? Maybe I missed more of this conversation, but I would start with answering these questions. Maybe you'll find some flags.

My doctor told me that the BG goes up because the liver begins excreting glucose due to the fact you are not eating as a back up mechanism seen in diabetics. So that's why meals are planned and meds taken on a schedule. I miss the days when I could just eat whenever I felt like it.
