Default London Newbie

Hi All,

30 years old, male, London, UK, working in online marketing. I am new to the forum, (found it via the iPhone app) which has proved so useful already.

I was in shock when I was diagnosed less than a week ago and now the years when I was probably pre-diabetic make much more sense. I'm experience a weird combination of feelings, remorse for a life I don't have anymore, guilt for bringing this on myself and relief that I know I can do something to make my life better.

Right now I am just trying to bring my sugar levels down from an average of 23 so I can avoid having to take I insulin, and although I am down to about 11, I never realised it could take so long. I'll find out on the 15th when I visit the hospital. Yesterday, I bought some pills from a Chinese herbalist that allegedly will bring down my sugar levels but I haven't had the courage to take something my doctor didn't prescribe.

Thanks for reading - for now my family doesn't know so this had been quite cathartic.

Cheers,

Ahsan

Welcome to the Forum!

Diabetes is just an inconvenience, that can be managed.

Try carb counting, it works.

Good luck with your control and management.

Hello! I was just diagnosed too... I knew it was coming tho, so I feel I had ya know, time to prepare... I have a pancreas injury and type two runs in my family. I don't know which type I am yet... My dr said that this point it doesn't matter because they are treated the same. I am on metformin and having a hard time with the hair loss. So embarrassing! I am 29 and live in Idaho. I don't want to be insulin dependent either- but just know- you are so not alone out there!

I've been on insulin for over ten years and only now getting my shit together. If I can offer advice it would be let people in and involved it makes understanding a bit easier when you can explain it. And as hard as it may be stay ontop of it. It's a pain in the ass but dealing with it head on is a must. Get a routine that fits your life and stick with it. Lifestyle adjustment not huge changes. Good luck lads!!!

Cheers Danny, Destiny and Griffen for the warm welcome.

I feel like I am starting to have some control - which is empowering.
Hope you are experiencing the same.

Default Be careful!!!

I was reading your post and I would be very careful about taking an herbal pill and mixing it with the meds your Dr. has prescribed. They can have a bad effect on you. Just to let you know.
