I have been a surgical diabetic for about 18 months. My pancreas was removed because of pre pancreatic cancer. I'm doing well but I'm very sensitive to insulin and food. It's a full time job at times. I don't think there are a lot of me out there.

I was diagnosed at the age of 7, in 1998, I am now 22 years old. The doctors in my home town thought I had the flu and was literally killing, one day my great grandma checked my level, and called the ambulance, they took me 2 hours out of town, and low and behold I was diagnosed with type 1. Juvenile diabetes . Really strange, no one on either sides of family has any history of it. Just my luck !

I found out i was diabetic at the age of 18. My fiancé keep saying something about going an be checks. He's father In low is to. But my little brother got sick one night and I ended up getting sick the next night. Throwing up. Everything and keep in my my parents had no idea at the time about diabetes. But I guess I ended up going into a coma. And when my dad got home from work the day after I got sick the rushed me to the er. It took them four hours to get a level. When they got it it was 986. My doctor told me that my level was probably at lests 1200 when I came in. They started pupping me with insulin right away. I was in a coma for four days was let out three days after that and that was 2.5 years ago. That happen in may and then that October I got pregnant with my now 1 year and two month old son.

I was 7 when I was diagnosed back in 1998. Doctors kept misdiagnosing me for weeks, saying it was just a yeast infection. Finally my mom refused to leave the doctor's office until he could tell her what was really wrong. He sent me for some blood work and phoned our house that night telling mom to take me into the Stollery. My reading was 48 mmol and I was given 2 days left to live if I hadn't been brought in. I've never felt so sick in my life. Still working to get my A1c down to a good level, but I'm close

I was diagnosed in 30th of May this year. During that month i lost around 10kg in 2 weeks. Since i'm in the military i explained the symptoms to the nurse there (i was drinking 4l of water everyday and i couldn't kill the thristy and was peeing a lot during the whole day). Blood sugar was around 300 fasting. I was rushed to the hospital after lunch and the doctors couldn't tell me how were the levels (the machines they had there only tested to 700). I always took care of my body but i was a bit sloppy with the food (not in terms of quality but of times, i only ate 2-3 times per day till then). It wasn't that hard for me to adapt because i had a girlfriend once who had type 1 aswell so i educated myself pretty fast to it. Spent 5 days in the hospital and so far so good with it.
Cheers. |

I was diagnosed in 1998. At the time I was playing rugby league, 4 training a week. Mid season I was performing bad, tired, and pushing after better result till It was no longer possible to not see a doctor. I went and crazy I was ask to do all test except glucose !!!! I collapsed 15 days later as I was getting more tired, thirsty and drinking water with sugar !!! I got admitted to tropical desease dpt as doc thought I was having a reaction 10 months after a sort of infection when I got back from a trip in Senegal. Over there they connected me a perfusion of glucose (like if they wanted to kill me) and obviously 1hr later they stop it as they realise they were wrong and transfer me another department, I lost 30kg from 80kg I was to 50kg, I wa like dead !! But recover well
I am steady at 72kg for the past 15years I Am on Humalog and Lantus Married, 3 kids in good health and all very sporty I am French and live in Guildford South London |

I was diagnosed as a type 1 back in 1959. After 54 years of diabetes
I'm still doing ok, but diabetics is a challenging disease no matter how long you've had it. Hang in there and learn to balance life vs health. I'm going for longest living type 1. I heard the record to beat currently stands @ 81 years. |

I was diagnosed when I was 3 years old. I am now 17, diabetes has been part of my life for almost 14 years. I honestly don't know where if would be without it, I love the uniqueness my diabetes gives me. I believe I take good care of my diabetes. I also have an AMAZING support system behind me; and a younger diabetic sister who knows exactly what I'm talking about even if I don't make any sense.
