#40: Movies that change my life

Since I started my 101 Things project, I have been working on watching 101 movies. So far, I’m at #87, and I’m planning on watching at least 3 movies this weekend (that’s how many Best Picture nominees I have left to watch). While I have thoroughly enjoyed many of the movies, there are a few that have really spoken to me and I realized that it really makes me happy when I watch a movie and it alters the way that I think about a situation, or it teaches me about an event or a group of people that I haven’t had any exposure to, or it’s just a cathartic experience.

#41: Payday

This certainly isn’t supposed to mean that money makes me happy, but living in the most expensive city in the world means that payday is usually equated with big sigh of relief! It means I can pay my bills and buy groceries and not have to worry about whether or not I’m going to run out of money. Running on full is so much better than running on empty! Same goes for when I get my freelance checks or money from my grandparents. It just means that the next week or so will go a lot more smoothly.

#42: Paying down my debt

I’ve been in debt for a long time, but I’m slowly working my way out of it. As of my next paycheck, I’ll be under $3,000 in debt, the lowest its been in recent memory (probably since before I moved to the East Coast three years ago, actually) and that makes me VERY happy! When I first started paying down debt, it seemed like I just couldn’t make a dent no matter what, and that even a little bit less was practically pointless. But now that I’m more than halfway down and seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, it makes me so happy to transfer money to my VISA card instead of using that money to go to a restaurant or buy a book or shoes or something. I actually like paying down my debt now, because I know I’m getting so much closer! I’ll be even happier when I don’t have any debt at all!
