Don't worry. You may feel overwhelmed right now but soon you won't need an app to determine the amount of carbs in your meal. I was diagnosed 2 yrs ago (latent onset juvenile DM) and focused on learning how to count carbs. I found that I remember a lot. I also make sure I check my sugars 4-6x a day. All of my a1c's have been 6 or lower since. Learn to count carbs and check sugars frequently and you will be fine.

I was diagnosed the beginning of December 2014. I used to use apps and scales to measure my carbs but after a while you pretty much know how many carbs you are getting. As said, check your sugars often. You will have more control. Good luck.
