Default reactive hypoglycemia ...

So I have been dealing with low blood sugar since I was 16... I have had two children and no major battles with controlling my sugar until the past year. I am a middle school teacher and almost completely lost my vision one day during class. My school nurse thought I was having a stroke because my blood pressure was extraordinarily high. Then i started passing out Like three times a week. Thousands of dollars tests later... Reactive hypoglycemia, and nothing but diet to control it ... Did anyone have this happen before they turned into a full fledged diabetic? My bg can go from 175 to 50 in 8 minutes flat. I am at a loss. My doctor says protein and truly I have to eat like 90 grams a day to stay upright .. Anyone have experience with this kind of thing? Any good hints. I am only 29 and I am struggling physically and emotionally trying to deal with this.

I have the same issues - I've not passed out yet but I am very close when it dips - I go from 210- to 66 in 30 mins or less - I notice it is when I have a lot of carbs - it's like my body can't break it down so sugar goes really low. I was just tested positive for autoimmune and going to rheumatologist in a week so I'm hoping to get answers - I was also told to change diet - more protein and to carry hard candy or juice with me at all times

I also have issues with my BGL dropping very low and quickly. Sometimes happens 30 minutes after a good meal. I feel hypocritical in telling my advise because i'm such a ding dong that I don't do the right things myself most of the time. With that said....here are my thoughts....if you need to lose weight - do it now and start exercising regularly. Eat healthy - be sure to include those fruits and veggies in your diet. ALWAYS keep some type of food with you. I can tell when I'm about to bottom out so I immediately stop what I'm doing and eat. I have passed out several times and had a BGL as low as 40. Tell your coworkers, friends and family. That way, if you really start to bottom out and need help - they know what to do. You can also keep glucose tablets with you. I have them in my car, purse and book bag at all times. Pay attention to your body and when your sugar is dropping. When was the last time you ate, what did you eat, how were you feeling etc... I have found patterns and can usually predict what's going to happen so I'm more prepared if I want to "cheat". When I was working, I kept those little cans of OJ in my desk drawer. They don't need to be refrigerated so it was perfect.

Hang in there - and pay attention to your body. Also...can't remember if you mentioned this but see your doctor too - have them do some BG Fasting tests, A1C, adrenal function etc... And watch the stress levels....that can make your BGL go crazy!!!

I feel the same way, I drop to the low fifties in 10 minutes. What seems to help me control it is just testing at least 2-3 times a day. I also try to keep some sugar around just in case

My problem is similar to your problem. I am a teacher as well, and I started passing out shortly after having blurry vision. ( at school, in driveway, at food lion) I got to the point that I could not focus on anything. After 4 months of different tests, the doctor found my insulin levels were 4 times what they should be, and after having a high blood sugar, the excess insulin was causing a fast drop causing me to pass out. The test that found this problem was the 4 hour blood glucose test also testing insulin levels so doctor could see the correlation between the two. After putting me on Victoza to control insulin release, I felt like a normal person again. I still go low every now and then, but I have not passed out since I've been on the victoza.
