Intersted in seeing if there is anyone out there who has ulcerative colitis and is type 2, but really interested to see if there is anyone out there who has had a total colectomy and now has a ileoanal resevoir aka j-pouch.
I had my proccedure in 1994 and followed a low-res, high carb diet for years, have had type 2 for about 5 years and on insulin with metformin for about a year. Numbers are really good now-A1c is 6.6 down from 13 last April (down from 11 last July when I was put on insulin) Without the colon, food goes right thru me, so eating low carb is very hard, but I do so every day because I know it is what has helped bring down those numbers. Fortunately, I tolerate the metformin pretty well, or I just have a high level of being able to put up with stomach distress due to the my history with ulcertaive colitis. Looking to find anyone out there with similar needs to chat. |

Have got something going on with my body, because I have hiatal hernia, serious anemia, and a serious vitamin D3 deficiency also. Am on iron tablets (three pills a day - 325 milligrams), and 50,000 unit Vit. D3 capsules, taken 1 x week/8 wks - then 2,000 units per day for about 12 weeks after that.
Celiac Disease just ruled out. Going for upper endoscopy/colonoscopy this coming Friday. Will know more then...may have? Tell me mire? |

I was having some upper gi problems also, but since I have really been watching what I eat and how much esp. at dinner, I have been much better. If you cut down at this meal drastically you should have some relief from that hiatal hernia. Also helps if you sleep on a wedge behind your head to keep you head elevated so the fluid doesn't work it's way up from the stomach. Good luck with your tests and let me know what your dr says after your proceedures.

Thanks so much acktennislady! Yes, the wedge I must definitely get. Blessedly, dinner usually is my smallest meal of the day. That works out better for me. Will keep u posted, and thanks for taking a moment to reply.

Had upper endoscopy and colonoscopy today. No polyps found, and procedures went well. Worst of that was the prep. only real aid affect is a rather wild looking set of swollen glands afterwards. Thankful...
