Default Newly diagnosed Type 1

Hi,
I am 24 years old and was recently diagnosed with Type 1 DM about a month and a half ago. I am still in my honeymoon phase. I am studying to be a Registered Dietitian, so the carb counting and insulin rates have come pretty easy for me. Unfortunately, I am still struggling mentally/emotionally with my diabetes, mainly in social settings. It's been difficult to know that I can't do the same things as my friends/family right now. I would love to hear some of your opinions or recommendations for a newly diagnosed individual who's still in the "honeymoon" phase.

Thanks

Jill

Jill;

Welcome to the Forum!

Diabetes is a learning experience, basically, most of us learn as we go. Find a Diabetes Support Group and get involved. The more that you are around other T1's, the easier the transition will be. I am no longer timid about my condition. I will test and take shots in front of anyone. Most people with diabetes will tell you that you shouldn't let friends and family hold you back. You can do anything that they can do, you just may have to approach the end results a little different than they do. Good luck with your control and management.

Try myglu.com
It's like a Facebook, but for people with T1.

That link does not work. Try .org instead. (https://myglu.org/)
