Default Hi! New to all of this.

Hi. I'm 49 and I have likely been diabetic for a long time. The second yeast infection in a year was my clue. I had regular blood tests done mid May. I have recently lost a lot of weight - 80 pounds over 3 years, so I thought I was pretty healthy. Nope bg 355, triglycerides 209, LDL 123, hdl 45, bp 120/89. What a mess. Second round of blood tests - A1C 13.3!! Put on metformin, made appointment with endo. She sent me for more tests, took me off metformin and right to insulin - Lantus and Humalog. Been doing lowish carbs (much fewer in the past week), started walking, cut out all sugar and found tasty alternatives. Latest tests - triglycerides 71, LDL 63, hdl 51, bp 110/70. What a change in 6 weeks! 19 units Lantus at night, and just started the Humalog "thinking scale" to comp for carbs on Tuesday. Now my bg is between 85 and 145 (still figuring out the insulin/carb/protein thing), and the range is narrowing every day. I'm pretty happy with my treatment - it sure is working! 11 days on insulin and I am fighting this pretty well. And I'm thrilled about my other numbers in just six weeks. I have read everything I can find, and the medical community is wrong about carbs. For me, insulin, low carb/high protein diet and exercise has worked. Very quickly. I will be med free once I get my body healthy. To do that, the insulin is necessary. It's not a failure or a last resort. I'm taking it one day at a time, but I am stoked about my progress!!
