Default Brand new to the club

I was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes on May 23,2012. I'm a 38 yr old, 6'1, 200lb, white male with no diabetes in family history. No idea what I'm supposed to be doing ... or not doing. Waiting for medical to kick in tomorrow to go buy my first test strips and monitor. Also have my first appt with a dietician. Cleaned out cupboards and bought a bunch of stuff I thought would be good for you. Brown bread. Whole wheat buns. Tortillas. Whole wheat English muffins. Should've read more about a diabetic diet before I went shopping. Lol. My doctor did a random glucose test during my first physical ever and it was 27.8 mmol/L. I don't even know what that means.
This is my beginning.

Test results from 25th were 15.6 and I just did my first test strip ever and got 8.9. Is it possible to get such a huge spike? Gonna start doing regular testing starting tomorrow morning.
