My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 3 weeks ago, she is 5. She has been AMAZING through all of it. We try to keep juice on hand (15 carb boxes) for filling in when she gets full too early. We also have a drawer of carb free snacks. We also have stressed that if our daughter eats without asking it could make her feel yucky and get sick. We also try to allow her to have as much control as possible over what she eats, where she pokes, and giving shots. It is hard, but we are slowly getting into a routine. Knowledge is power in this situation, and we have tried to educate our daughter as fully as possible and allow her the opportunity to educate her classmates and teachers (with a parent filling in where neccessary) I hope this helps, I know how hard it is. My daughter says the delica lancets are the best, and we use reli-on 31 gauge 8mm needles and the only place that hurts is backs of arms. Good luck on your new journey!
