Default steroids

Diagnosed as type 2 in August, 2010, and lost my right foot foot to gangrene. (Got my new foot yesterday!) Possibly from the diabetes, I've had eye problems; both eyes started growing extra blood vessels, distorting the retinas. I've now had laser surgery on both eyes, with a shot of steroids in the eye after surgery to reduce scarring.

Prior to the surgery, my readings were really good, with an Aic of 5.0 in January. In fact, my mother thinks I may not be truly diabetic, since I've had regular readings of 100 or lower first thing in the morning, even as low as 81, and felt fine. She gets shaky, sweaty and nervous under 100, and I've never had that. But since the first surgery February 2, I've noticed the numbers creeping up a bit. No higher than 120 fasting, but higher than I like. Is this a problem, and how long should it take for the steroids to stop affecting my readings?
