Default January Recap and February Goals.

Congratulations, America! You have survived your first month of the New Year. Have you stuck to your resolutions? If you’re like 99.9% of the world, you haven’t, but if you have, you’re awesome. Have a cookie.

How did I do? Well, let’s take a look at what I said my January goals were and whether or not I accomplished what I set out to do:

1. Give blood.

Indeed I did! Kind of under the gun though. I signed Erik and I up for doing it the third weekend in January, but we ended up having to cancel, which gave us just this past weekend to do it. Unfortunately, since I never officially canceled on the website, the NYC Blood Center thought I had already given and wouldn’t let me schedule an appointment until MARCH! Ugh. Fortunately, there happened to be a Donor Bus sitting outside Barnes and Noble near my apartment and we spotted it on our way to brunch on Saturday. So, having filled up on food, we checked to see if we could donate. Erik, unfortunately, had a bit of a cold so they wouldn’t let him donate and I barely snuck by since my first iron test was a tad low (I’m not a meat eater, so I’m not too heavy on the iron). Luckily, a re-do of the test showed that *I could donate and I said “au revoir” to a pint of my blood. No ill effects were had, though I did feel a bit woozy when we got back to my apartment.

2. Go to the gym 4 days a week, every week for this month (a week is Monday thru Sunday).

Sadly, no. I did really well for the first two weeks, but I had a bunch of dinners and evenings out – plus the sheer terror of going out into freezing temperatures – made it rather difficult to get out. I’m hoping to start this up again in February though.

3. Eat vegetarian for one week.

Also a negative. I almost did it, but the motivation to stick with it just wasn’t there. I’ll get to it!

4. Become a member at the New York Public Library.

Success! In fact, we did this right after donating blood. There is a branch of the library not to far from me, so we hopped down there before it closed to pick up our New York Public Library cards. I’m hoping this will motivate me to read some of the book series I’ve been meaning to read, like Twilight.

5. Mail a sussy to someone. (A sussy is a surprise gift to someone for no particular reason).

Success! I sent a sussy to my friend and fellow D.O.C. member, Lori, who is going through a rough patch in her life. I sent her a $25 gift card to Target and the book In the Spirit of Happiness, which I read in college when I was also going through a rough patch both emotionally and spiritually. It’s a really great book and I highly recommend it.

Three out of 5 were accomplished but that’s not all! I also accomplished another item on my 101 Things List! Erik and I became bona fide members of the American Museum of Natural History, which is mere blocks from my apartment and one of my favorite museums because of it’s interactivity and diversity.

So what’s up for February? Well, Erik and I will be accomplishing #40 (see a performance of the New York City Ballet) on February 13 when we see Swan Lake, and I’m edging closer towards completing #39 (watch 101 movies). I’m also about halfway through #19 (finish a bottle of multivitamins) so I feel like I’m progressing quite well!

Here are 5 things I plan to do in February:

1. Keep a food journal and write down everything that I eat. I’ll actually be doing this on my blog, in a new section called Food Diary, so you can follow along and give me pointers as you see fit (be kind, though).

2. Send a sussy. My goal is to send 5 total, so I still have 4 more people to surprise with a gift!

3. Write in a prayer journal once a week. This is part of my overall goal of building my relationship with Jesus. The actual goal is to write once a week for six months, but I’ve got to start somewhere!

4. Download and listen to the sermons from Imago Dei Community Church. I’ve actually already set up the iTunes at my office to do this, so I am planning on listening to each week’s sermon on Mondays. Again, something I plan to do for six months.

5. Floss my teeth everyday. I got a lecture last fall about not flossing, and I haven’t exactly held up my end of the deal. Planning to rectify the situation this month! I’ll be marking a star on my calendar every night I floss my teeth.

Whew! Think I can do it?

What are you going to accomplish this month?
