T1 + Vegan?
So on top of diabetes I have several other health issues. Chronic pancreatitis, IBS, fatty liver, hypothyroidism, vitamin deficiencies, amount a few other issues....I am 25 and have had diabetes since before I turned 5, so 20 plus years. I was mostly well controlled till I turned 18, then everything went downhill from there. First time I went to hospital for ketone acidosis I was visiting my dad in England. My insulin had gone bad on my flight and I just couldn't figure out how to get my sugars under control. Then I came back to the states and just episode after episode I keeped getting sick then I got pancreatitis and dropped 60 pounds within a two month span. Then all these other problems started showing up. Here I am today with sharko ankle, a bad history with MRSA, struggling to keep my A1C down below a 10, and my life is in shambles due to my health. I can't keep a job longer than 6 months, I am barely passing classes cause I keep having to miss class due to being sick or in the hospital.
Anyhow I was wondering if anyone is or has gone vegan and how it affects their diabetes, because the only things that don't upset my stomach are fruits and veggies and also it seems easier to control my bg with only eating those but I find it hard to not eat cheeses and meats...even though I immediately regret it afterwards. Can anyone give me any advice for this? Or share their experiences with vegan I and diabetes?
