Default Hello!

I'm Liz, a middle aged woman who just got The Call from her doctor: Your blood sugar is too high. I have my official appointment in about an hour, and have been doing lots of research on the current state of diabetes knowledge.

I grew up with a diabetic father (Type 2). He was on the tightest control he knew about, but that was the 1960's - 70s, and nobody understood about carbs vs table sugar. Still, I learned a lot about diet, and when he went on insulin, I learned about that, too.

I have 2 kids, ages 14 and 9. With the first, I was borderline gestational diabetic, with #2, I was full-on g.d. Through radical diet modification and exercise, I managed with no insulin.

Since then, my weight has crept up, and I've been pre-diabetic for a few years. I exercise a lot, but don't eat well (pasta!). My plans are to improve my diet, lose weight, and hopefully control my diabetes that way.
