Smile Type 2 from New Zealand

Hi, I am 63 years old and have been Type 2 for 3 years. Treatment: 850mg Metformin twice a day. In August 2008 I had a cerebral heamorrhage and collapsed, blind, and incapacitated, while doing a "desk job" 7 days a week. Blood pressure was over 200. Admitted to hospital, they called my lawyer and a priest. Someone "up there" is looking after me, because I'm still here, writing to you.

I have learned to walk, jog, and swim again(speech was not affected) and now suffer no outward signs of disability except i need to sleep for 1 hour each afternoon.
My weight has stayed about the same 80kg. BMI 29.

A week prior to my stroke and 5 weeks hospitalization, we purchased an iPhone and downloaded Glucose-Buddy. I have been using it religiously ever since.
My doctors are amazed, not only with the technology but the GB application.
The hospital specialist checks my progress online(I've given him my password) and sends a memo to my doctor who I see once a month.
GB has made a huge difference in self-medication and control (food, exercise,BG readings)and now I am able to add blood pressure!
GB to me is now priceless!

One side effect of taking Metformin: I have worn spectacles for the last 19 years. 3 months after taking Metformin, I'm back to 20/20 vision. Medical eye checks = "Great, We don't want to see you for the next 2 years"

The secret: Medication as instructed; Sugar-free foods; Prepare own food(nothing out of a packet); mainly vegetables; NO sauces, gravies; 10,000 Steps a day exercise(5 miles); 10 hours sleep/night; 2 glasses good red wine /day, and drinking water only.
Remember "God only helps those who help themselves."

Last Monday the doctor reduced my Metformin(850mg) to once a day, in the morning, but I have to compensate by eating sweet products, like chocolate bars(62%). I never thought I would do that again.

I have just taken Danos advice and re-read the 101 info that I read last September. Great stuff! JUST DO IT WITH GB IN YOUR POCKET!

Cheers,
Pete
