Smile Too Sweet in Philly

Hello Everyone,

My name is Char. I have been fighting diabetes for the last 10 years. I didn't really give it all that much thought when I was first diagnosed because I was a broke college kid and I didn't have any health insurance so it wasn't something that I kept in the forefront of my mind.

I am here to tell you that ignoring your health is not the way to go! Like I said unfortunately I didn't have much of a choice and I hadn't been able to seek out medical treatment but there were plenty of lifestyle choices that I could have adapted a bit more in order to not be in the dire health related situations that I'm in today.

I didn't begin to take my diabetes seriously and so I started having problems with my kidneys. When your blood sugars go out of control for an extended amount of time it damages and taxes the other organs in your body and my kidneys were hit the hardest so now not only in my battling with diabetes trying to keep that under control I also have to battling the kidney failure that I'm now experiencing.

I currently take Humolog and Lantus to manage my diabetes. My endocrinologist is monitoring closely to see how these two drugs help maintain my blood sugars.
