Default high blood sugar

I was discharged from the hospital a week an a half ago, after a week long stay. Since then I've started a new blood pressure medicine and stopped the metformin. For the last few days I've felt horrible. Some is the bp medicine, Norvasc, some is high blood sugar. It got down to 144 at bedtime last night, woke up to 177. Went to church, had two cheese straws ( no fruit or juice) and came home to a reading of 234. I've been using my mothers Novalog on a sliding scale and it doesnt do much. I see my GP tomorrow morning, but any ideas till then? Trying to drink more water, but 'm not really thirsty.
