Default change in vision

I am a newly diagnosed type 2. To be specific...1 week ago! My glucose 1 week ago was 488...and I am down today to 122. My question...is it normal to notice a change in vision? I feel like I need a new prescription...but I was told to wait at least 6-8 weeks.

Welcome to the Forum!

Yes, the vision problem is normal. The vision problem is equated with high blood sugar levels over a long period of time. Be advised that you didn't reach your current level over night and you will not see the fix for this over night either, as it will take some time. You will experience a drastic improvement in your vision, when you get your blood sugar to a more normal and stabilized level. You should see this level when you reach an average blood sugar of less than 140 mg/dl. However, I would urge you to set your goal for an average blood sugar of between 100 mg/dl and 120 mg/dl.

Read through the first three threads in the Type 2 Section, when you get a chance, if you have not already done so. These threads will most-likely help you a lot. Self education is one of the keys to successful management of your diabetes, along with a healthy / sensible diet and exercise. Basically, diabetes requires a life-style change for the better. Good luck with your control and management.

Fensty15, I just posted yesterday about my improved vision. Don't you feel like you put on somebody else's glasses? And after only two weeks of insulin for me! I'm gonna wait til my numbers level off, then get new glasses. Weird to suddenly have decent vision.

Started having vision problems 2 weeks ago checking blood sugar I was in the mid 250's, eye exam turned out ok. Family doctor has doubled my metformin medication and put me on Januvia. BS is now in mid to high 180. This is very expensive medication so be warned. My first month was $347.00. Januvia has some programs to help offset the cost so check their website. U can get the first one free.
