Default BG drops too low

I'm taking Glipizide 10mg in the morning and Metformin 1000mg twice a day. By 10:00 in the morning my BG was dropping as low as 50 after having eaten a good breakfast. I have stopped taking the Glipizide for now as prescribed by my doctor and my morning BG average is around 130 before breakfast. I wonder if I should be taking half doses of the Glipizide twice a day. Has anyone had any experience with the extended release version of Glipizide?

Reference
Do not crush, chew, or break a glipizide extended-release tablet. Swallow it whole. Breaking the pill may cause too much of the drug to be released at one time.
