Default Dawn Effect?

Exercising and eating 1200 cals per the nutritionist & taking the Metformin...have premeal levels down to the 100's and even some '90's. 141 OOB this morning - so discouraging! Have lost 18lbs now but many more to go...

You can find several other posts concerning the "dawn effect" by doing a tag search on "Dawn Phenomenon", see the tag below or use this link if you need more information. It is commonly referred to as the "Dawn Phenomenon" and it can be very discouraging. Try to get your fasting levels down to between 70 & 99. You also may want to go back and see what you had for dinner last night. A thirty (30) minute walk after dinner and before bed time may help.

Read the first three threads in the Type 2 Section, when you get a chance, if you have not already done so. Good luck with your control and management.

I started taking my Metformin at bedtime instead of after dinner and wow I saw an immediate effect. FBS now near 100 instead of 130's so I'm glad about that!

I take two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in water before bed and eat an ounce of cheese. Sometimes I run lower than before bed, and the times it goes up it isn't much, maybe 10 points. My doctor says that isn't enough to cause concern. I may begin taking my metformin before bedtime as well and see how that works out.

Try an ounce or so of almonds. I was eating nothing before bed and my morning BSG was the highest of the day. I read about the "dawn effect" and tried almonds one night before bed. My BSG was about 30-40 points lower the next morning. I have been on almonds since and now my morning BSG is my lowest test of the day. Hope this helps.

I've tried eating a small snack in the evenings, eating right at bedtime, eating more in the evenings and eating nothing after dinner. No matter what I do my bs is high in the am. I take Metformin 1000 mg twice a day. I'll try the almonds.
