Default New Diabetic

Hello all, My name is Tommy, I am 49 yo and live in Decatur, Ga. I run an Ambulance service communications center and have been in the EMS business for 25 yrs.

I was diagnosed with diabetes about 4 weeks ago. It was a surprise as no one in my family has ever had it. I am dealing with it pretty well. I take 10 units of insulin nightly, metformin twice a day and have started watching what I eat. It seems to be working as my glucose levels are steadly declining.

Anyway just wanted to say hey to everyone and look foward to learning more about controlling this monster.

Smile There is hope!

Hello Tommy, I was diagnosed in Jan and was put on Insulin twice a day and also 1000 metformin twice a day. I have an awesome Dr. and Dietician who have encouraged and coached me well. I have religiously watched my diet and have been fortunate enough to get off insulin and cut metformin in half. It looks like I may be off it totally soon. Initially I tested my BS and logged what I ate multiple times a day until I learned what worked for me. Now I test only 2 to 3 times a day and am pretty consistent. Good luck to you

Default thanks

Thanks Dana, I've been working really hard at getting this thing under control. Seems to be working pretty well and I hope to be off the insulin in the next few months. I have a great support group and home and work so that makes things a bit easier. Hope all works out well for you.

Talking Welcome, Tommy

Hello Tommy. I was just diagnosed as well, with Type 2 diabetes. I think we will find good support on this forum. I have been going through denial and depression in the past two weeks.

Best of luck, and hope you manage well.
