New male, 57,type2, diagnosed April, 2015
Hello,
I want to join others here, and say how helpful these forums are! Thanks for sharing this information! I was started on Metformin in April of 2015. Had Bg/ml readings well over 200, and weighed 332 lbs. I was one of the lucky ones, in that a side effect of Metformin was weight loss, regardless of what I ate. I lost about 35 lbs, and plateaued around 295, down from 332. I have now added counting calories, and carbs, using "Loseit" app system, and have lost another 15 lbs. In addition to Metformin, my Dr has added/tried many drugs: farciga, then invokana, Byedueron, then Trulicity. I hope to reduce the number of meds in time, but he is an aggressive prescriber. My A1C has gone down to 6, and I hope my next blood test to be 5. I'm glad to be in this forum. Thanks again! |

Welcome to the Forum!
Congrats with your weight loss. It looks as if you are doing well. Read through the first three threads in the Type 2 Section, when you get a chance, if you have not already done so. These threads will most-likely help you a lot. Self education is one of the keys to successful management of your diabetes, along with a healthy / sensible diet and exercise. Basically, diabetes requires a life-style change for the better. Good luck with your control and management.

About the A1c
Judy,
As I understand it, the A1C is a standard used in blood glucose testing for Type 2 diabetes under your Drs. care, that measures your Glucose level over a period of months (not just days). Google "A1c," or take a look at "Bood Sugar 101" under "Type 2" in this forum. Good luck. Ron |

Howdy & welcome to the Forum.
A1C is the (fasting) average of BSL's taken 3-6th monthly and gives the average in per cent age. Of your BSL over a 10-12 week period. It is a good, reliable indicator of your Diabetes control |
