Good morning everyone. I have not been diagnosed as a diabetic but have been asked to monitor my blood sugar by my doctor because I've had a few really high spikes and in monitoring we have seen it go really high and really low. I'm just starting out and don't understand this much but was wondering about machines to check this. I have an old one from my stepdad before he passed and it gives a reading but in one sitting it can give me 4 different readings. I don't like that. I'm thinking I just have a crappy machine. He had two and I took this one because the strips were cheaper. Maybe it was my mistake but now the other is gone. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the Forum!

Read the first three threads in the Type 2 Section when you get a chance. Successful management of T2 diabetes begins with a lifestyle change. Read and learn all you can on your condition, education is key.

The meter problem may be from old strips or meter discrepancies. You can take blood sugar readings, one after another, and probably never get the same reading. The best blood sugar meters on the market are still only within 10% to 20% accurate. This is just one of the many problems with having diabetes. The world of technology is still lagging for us.

Good luck with your control and management.
