Default do I REALLY have GD?

76 (fast- supposed to be less than 93)

*210 (1hr-supposed to be less than 180 & since over 200 = automatic fail)

118 (2hr- supposed to be less than 154)

*147 (3hr- supposed to be less than 140)

Disheartened bc I'm only 24, no family history, 5'6 and 120lbs before baby, gained 27 thus far, am 34 weeks and JUST diagnosed yesterday. I am extremely healthy- and am thinking the rush of sugar/carbs pushed me over bc I normally don't have that stuff in my system. Thoughts? Advice?

just a thought, why so disheartened? by definition, your blood glucose will return to normal once you deliver. and it only puts you at a slightly higher risk for T2 down the road.

whether you have it or not, your numbers warrant possibly checking your own blood glucose at home at least a couple of times a day and just paying closer attention to what you eat in terms of glycemic index. I wouldn't be worried about being put on any medications at this level so there's not a lot to be worried about. (of course this is coming from a woman dealing with T1 diabetes 24/7 for 14 years)

also, I'd like to point out that PLENTY of healthy women have diabetes, whether T1, T2 or GD - don't take it as a sign that you're "unhealthy" - just that your hormones are raging right now and it's affecting the way you metabolize carbohydrates. I consider myself an extremely healthy T1 - I eat mostly plant based and raw, and I compete in endurance events.

could it definitely be GD? yes. could it definitely not be GD? yes. is it better to err on the side of caution in this case and stay on top of it for the sake of yourself and your baby? probably.

I'm feeling the same way! I was diagnosed on Thursday. I'm really having trouble believing it because I've always had low blood sugar. I just checked mine for the first time 2 hrs after dinner and it was 106. Was my 1 hour glucose test invalid? She didn't have me do the 3 hour because my reading came back 199 after the 1 hour. Am I really diabetic?!

I'm disheartened bc I feel like I've done everything "right" but was still diagnosed, so thanks for clarifying that it's a hormonal thing and not an unhealthy thing. I've also never had to watch what I eat, ever, so I'm struggling to just accept that part of it.

Curiously enough though, same as poster above, every meal I've tested no higher than 111. Doctor wants me to be under 135, but the 111 comes from eating rather normally (to kind of test at first where I stood). Which is why it's also frustrating bc my numbers after meals indicate nothing abnormal.

totally understandable. sounds like you have grounds for requesting another test. as for watching what you eat - keep in mind, it's not really for you, it's for your baby. similar to how you can't have sushi while pregnant, right? again, even if you do have GD, it's because your hormones are going crazy and once you deliver you will be perfectly normal
