Try eating a hand full of almonds before bed. If that doesn't help you may need to have a bigger snack or adjust you basal or bolus dosage.

I have been having the same problems and it seems I'm having too much lantus (long acting), I've now seen the nurse and reduced my evening dose and seems to be going ok so far! Hope you get sorted :-)

are you also on lantus, BBB?
this is why the pump is helpful - no long acting insulin, it's all short acting and you can change the patterns hour by hour. I used to go low in my sleep as well, but now that I'm on a pump, I just set my basal rate to be lower for the bulk of when I sleep and I usually wake up fine. I would suggest in your case to talk to your Endo about a target range you should be at before bed - so maybe 100mg/dL is too low before bed, maybe he/she would want you at 120-140mg/dL before bed and you can eat a small snack to get you there. When I was on Lantus, I would eat a couple of graham crackers and have a small glass of milk before bed and that would usually do the trick. You want something with carbs and fat in it because the fat will delay the gastric emptying and keep you elevated longer throughout the night. Good luck! |
