Default Diabetic Having Kids

Hello,
I am currently 30 years and engaged. People often ask us if me and my soon to be wife will be having babies. One cannot predict the future. I'm very concerned that if I impregnate my wife that our child will also be diabetic. Although, diabetes runs on my mothers side and i was only diagnosed at 19, will my son or daughter be succeptable to this hereditary disease? When I ask Doctor's I never seem to get a straight answer.

Any help would be appreciated

Regards
NF

I am 35 with a 20 month old. My wife's on gynecologist told us that type 1 diabetes will usually skip a generation. I also was diagnosed with type 1 at the age of 17 and there isn't any family members that have ever been diagnosed with type 1 or 2 diabetes. So I question the whole hereditary theory. Have a baby and enjoy life with him/her. It is amazing.
