Does anyone know why blood sugars go up after a good nights rest?
Last night, I tested my BG after 2-3hrs after dinner & it was 135mg/dl. I then tested it this morning and it was 144 mg/dl. Has anyone encountered this problem? |

I have a similar issue. My fasting sugar is 15 to 20 points higher than when taken 2 to 3 hours after meals. My doctor could not explain other than during the night (resting) if BS goes low, liver releases sugar to balance. If any one can explain how to lower fasting sugar. I read somewhere, if one does excercise before going to bed, the morning sugar will be lower. I have not tried yet.

Thanks for your reply.
I have noticed that when I do exercise right before bed time, I'm wide awake and I can't sleep. But given the circumstances, if this will lower my BG then ill try anything!!! Thanks again for your response :-) |

I have also noticed this. I try to go for a walk of about 30 minutes after breakfast and another before dinner and that has a very marked impact on my BG (pretty reliable drop of 60 mg/dl). I'm not *too* concerned about the slightly higher fasting BG. I've heard the body is most insulin resistant just as you wake so that may also have an impact on the measured figures.

The sugar os higher In the morning because your body through the night Burns the food you have eaten all day and has worked really hard now your system is empty.

My doctor told me that during the night your body keep making glucose and dumps it into the blood stream. I take insulin at bedtime to counteract and it seems to help
