Sorry for the missing in action ... CRAZY TIMES
I'm looking for people to talk to and support me in this crazy diabetic maze. I want somewhere and people I can vent to and know they understand what it means when I say... That cake was so worth the extra units!!! I have been diabetic for about 8 years now and not taking good care of myself at all.... I think I was still in denial about it all.... Yesterday I went to my endo and Re-Claimed my diagnoisis we decided that the past is the past and there is nothing I can do about what I did before but there is something I can do now!!! I'm reading alot today and getting information. I even decided to re-take the diabetic education classes they offer at the hospital. |

Hi Melissa, I have had diabetes for 4 years. Like others I did good at first and just went off for a couple of years. Mind you I did take my medication, but ate very bad. December 2011 my A1C was up and my doctor let me have it. She doubled my meds and told me to eat better. I started the 1st of December and watched my Carbs and no sugar. It was very hard but I knew I had to see the doctor in 3 months. I was able to drop 14 lbs and 4 pant sizes in the 3 months. My doctor even saluted me. I fill better and my family knows that I should not eat sweets. If you are really desparate then eat what one thing, but don't make a habit of doing it every day. Just remember that "Attitude is Everything"

From experience(sadly recent as I have just removed my head from my backside after being in your shoes for years). Moderate excercise most days, portion control, give the carbs a rest.

Hi Melissa, I'm also new, but have learned a lot in just a few days. Mostly it's been...quit the denial! It's not going to go away. It wasn't a mistake on the doctor's part. You WILL damage your organs if your sugar is too high.
Since many of us live in Egypt (In de Nile), support will hopefully keep us where we belong. The carb recommendations I've gotten from this site are much much lower than the guidelines I was given at the diabetes education class, but also much more effective. For me, my most stable levels have been achieved when I set a timer on my phone and ate a small snack every 2 hours ( 6 raw almonds, or 1 string cheese or a piece of turkey, fish etc). If I get a spike, 20 minutes of walking can bring it down most times. Stress always gives me a spike...lots of luck with that one. It's when I get cocky and ignore all the above that I get in trouble and have what I think is nerve involvement and leg swelling. Good luck to you and let's all support one another. |

Water, I say again, water. I try to ensure I drink 8-10 12 ounce glasses a day.
