My name is Eileen & my 8 year old son was diagnosed with type 1 two weeks ago. It appears that we caught it fairly early (no ketones or dka and A1C was 8.9). He is handling it well but we feel like we have a new baby again. He was running too low, especially at night, so doc adjusted lantus & Novolog down. Going to pump class next month to start gathering info. Any tips on anything appreciated !

Eileen & son;

Welcome to the Forum! Self education is one of the keys in dealing with diabetes. Read everything that you can on your son's condition. Start with the first three threads in the Type 2 Section, as they will help him as well. Learn to count carbs, and since you mentioned pump class, they will emphasize this as well.

Good luck with your son's control and management, I wish you both well.

Eileen, I am new here too so I have no great advice to give but I am an "old" mother and will be here if you need to talk or "vent" to anyone. I'll be sending well wishes your way. Michele
