Multiple meters multiple results
I have labile glucose levels that bounce from 85 to 436 and back. Insurance won't pay for enough strips to know when & how much insulin to use. So I have a contour, a WalMart, a Cvs & another meter. WalMart seems to have the most affordable strips.
However, my readings from the same drop of blood or within 5 minutes can vary by more than 40 points, leaving me guessing by how I feel as to how much insulin I need. Or food if it is low. There is a big difference between 82 and 105 or 137. & 167. Anyone else have similar issues irsuggestions? Last edited by ifleye; 03-31-2011 at 12:06 AM. |

Welcome to the Forum!
Most of the information that you seek can be found here. Has your doctor mentioned wearing a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) Device?

Since the cause of my diabetes was two years of prednisone, exacerbation of my underlying lactic acid problem & trying to reduce fats that I apparently need I am proceedingslowly. As we get these issues back in control, & I eleminate sugars &bad carbs I hope to eliminate the wide glucose swings & need for insulin & tracking.
However, today, this week, this month I am really bad. I have contacted 6 endocrinologists in Tampa & None wanted me as a patient after learning I had already had my thyroid removed from cancer & have underlying mitochondrial disorder. Too complicated, my cancer Doctor does mot do diabetes/glucose problems. So I am in limbo. Oh well! I am slowly learning from frequent testing what my body is doing & what works & doesn't. But the inaccuracy of meters complicates the process. Thank you or response, Ifleye |
