Default confused diagnosis?

So I was diagnosed with type 1 in July 2010 and was at first taking a large amount of insulin for my weight. I started becoming super sensitive to the insulin and needed less and less. Despite eating 3500 calories a day I was still only 120 pounds at 5'8" I decided I needed to cut my calories back to 1700 since that was what my dietician had prescribed to begin with anyways oh and also my a1c is always under 6 so it's not like all of this is happening because of high bg. Anyways since I have cut my calories back I am taking absolutely no insulin. The highest I have been is 11.4 which is my highest reading with or without insulin. And that reading was after eating a carby meal of 120grams that's 8 carb choices at once with no insulin!

Anyone else have the same thing happen? My mom and brother who has type 1 as well think it's the honeymoon stage. My doctor has told me just to keep checking my bg and start taking insulin again if or when I need it.

Looking for some support with this confusion. Although it is truly a blessing to not have to take insulin right now i am wondering what to expect in the future ?

Welcome to the Forum!

I will have to agree with your family, it sounds like the honeymoon stage. It is my understanding that this can last up to a year or more and depends on age of onset. Keep an eye on your numbers and good luck with your control and management!
