What should I do if I've taken my insulin for the day but my glucose is a bit high before I go to bed

It would help if you mentioned whether you are Type 1 or Type 2, but usually you have a few options. You can calculate and take a small bolus of fast acting insulin, you can walk for twenty to thirty (20-30) minutes, or you could have eaten fewer carbs during dinner.

I'm type 1, but only got diagnosed last week so I'm still learning, was just wondering if I can take a shot of insulin before bed?

You can take the bolus injection, you just don't want to get too low. Most of us try to maintain a fasting blood sugar of 70-99 mg/dl.
Concerning the lows: If you awake during the night for no apparent reason test your blood sugar. Some people experience odd dreams, which is another tell. When in doubt test. Use the "Rule of 15", as you certainly don't want to over correct the lows. Good luck with your control and management.
