Question Victoza

I was on metformin, and it seemed be successful – until my kidney started feeling. I was on Byetta for short time and then the dr switched me to victoza for about a year. In the last month my kidney function is dropped from 45% down to 25%. Due to a situation with my doctor who is on disability, the nurse practitioner three months ago said what ever. Anyway then I developed a new neuropathy actually I had about a year until I just understood what it was, or my food was not digesting and I started violently vomiting. Also I heard some things about victoza a causing renal failure which didn't make me very happy. I try to find another doctor but it's going take me a month to get into anyone. I totally went off the victoza of because it was no longer even coming close to helping me regulate my blood sugars, and they were averaging about 200 which I told the nurse practitioner. I went to to kidney specialist and he gave me some Januvia to take in the morning with my glipizide. right now I'm only taking glipizide with Januvia in the morning and my sugars fluctuate between 298 and then tonight they're 80. Any ideas?

I'm glad I found this post. I'm not happy with Victoza either. Once I went on it, my numbers are averaging 50% higher than before, and my PA seems oblivious to my increase in BG. Seeking another doctor, may try Byetta. Any updates on your situation?

I have not tried Victoza, but I currently take Byetta. I am usually quite sensitive to side effects of medication, but I have not had any with the Byetta. You might want to do a little research on it at byetta.com to see if you think it might be right for you.

Is the doctor you have been seeing (or the PA) an endocrinologist or a PCP? I have found that endocrinologists take diabetes more seriously than some PCP's. However, my PCP is pretty thorough about keeping me on track. Plus, he gives me a supply of Byetta (samples) for three months at a time. I could not afford it otherwise.

I don't know if this was helpful. It definitely sounds like you need to locate a new doctor. There are sites online where you can see patients' reviews of doctors. I would check those and also check out the byetta site, if you are thinking about going that way.

PS: I have also tried glipizide and Januvia. Neither had any impact on my glucose levels.
