Hi all,
I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The Doc gave meds and sent me on my way. After my first follow up he game the name of a nutritionist. She gave me a glucose tester which I believe I am becoming obsessed with. I was told I need to be between 80 - 120. In 1 week I haven't had a reading below 150. I am a numbers person so I am concerned and depressed over this. Does anyone know if it takes a while for the meds to kick in? Also any suggestions of good web sites for recipes and other info. I love to cook so this is really hitting me hard. Any comments' are appreciated. Ciao |

![]() It can take up to 30 days for the meds to completely get into your system. This varies according to body type, but that is the general consensus. I am a numbers person as well. I suppose that my profession has a lot to do with that. Shoot for this: 70-99 fasting (out of bed) and 70-120 any other time. Keep in mind that anything below 70 is a hypo and that an average of 140 or more for a long period of time can cause problems down the road. BTW just test before the meal and two hours after the meal. This will tell you what foods spike your blood sugar so that you can cut down on them. Read through the first three threads in the Type 2 Section, when you get a chance, if you have not already done so. These threads will most-likely help you a lot. Self education is one of the keys to successful management of your diabetes, along with a healthy / sensible diet and exercise. Basically, diabetes requires a life-style change for the better. It takes awhile to get your numbers where you want it to be at least for me it did because your body is still adjusting to the medication. What helped for me was my dietician and my diabetic nurse who did a great job informing me and teaching me about food and insulin and anything else. Hey I'm a Christian and all I can offer you is God because He has been my help and my hope in all this! Praying for you!

I have been pairing my fitness pal app with my readings to see what foods cause higher readings...I have discovered sunflower seeds and beanitos chips. Yogurt freezes great and is great in smoothies with protein powder and milk for that extra boost in protein!

Hi. My numbers were around 150 at the start. I was diagnosed with type 2 3 years ago. Since then I've lost 80 lbs. & have gone off all meds. My bg readings are typically 90 to 110- depending on what I eat and how much I exercise (gym + walking 1 hr/ day). I have a strong family history of type 2 diabetes with many relative disabled or dying young due to complications. It's a real motivator. Stay in there for the long haul. Cheers 😃👍
