Default Recent Spike

I had been diagnosed as pre-diabetic. I having been checking my blood levels on an occassional basis since. About five years now. My A1C ranged up and down from 6.3 to 6.8. Due to have it checked again next month. Two days ago when checking my glucose level it was 275. In the past five years I have only seen it over 200 a few times. Being concerned I have been checking regularly for the past two days and it is averaging about 175 with quite a few over 200 reading. I usually average about 130 to 140. Could there be a particular reason for this sudden spike, should I be concerned.

I am always concerned if my average is greater than 140 mg/dl, which is equivalent to an A1c of 6.5%.

Your A1c (6.3 to 6.8) [equates to 135 to 149] is pretty good. An average of 200 equates to an A1c of about 8.6%. I would evaluate what is different for the past few days, in your case. Stress and lack of sleep will drive the blood glucose numbers up, as will being sick.

Take a look at the first three threads in the Type 2 Section, when you get a chance, if you have not already done so. These threads will most-likely help you a lot. Self education is one of the keys to successful management of your diabetes, along with a healthy / sensible diet and exercise. Basically, diabetes requires a life-style change for the better. Good luck with your control and management.

With those numbers, you are actually diabetic. If your BG is around 100- that is prediabetic- 140 range is definitely diabetic- carbs are your enemy- you blood sugar will spike considerably after eating bread and pasta. A healthy BG reading two hours after a meal should be below 170 or 180. Go to your doctor and share your numbers to get a diagnosis and treatment
