I found out I was T2 in Aughust 2010. I apparently had diabetic neuropathy, thus I didn't feel the fractures in my right foot. The swelling led to a blister, that was slow to heal, which led to gangrene. I had two toes removed, but that didn't stop the infection so the whole foot was removed at the end of August. Recovery has been slow, partly due to stubborn bacteria but I'm ready to start working on the prosthesis.
Me blood sugar reading on that first trip to the doctor was close to 400, I believe. I'm not sure though how much the high blood sugar caused the infection, or how much the infection caused the high blood sugar. I'm currently taking Duetact 30/2 (Actos/glimiperide). My readings range from about 95-105 fasting, and around 120 or so two hours after meals. I've lost about 50 pounds since August; infection and lots of strong antibiotics will zap your hunger though. |

Welcome to the Forum!
![]() I am sorry that you had to learn of your T2 diabetes through diabetic neuropathy. It sounds like you are on the road to recovery and doing very well with your blood sugar numbers. The weight loss is a very good thing, this will help your in the long run, it's just a shame that you had to go through an infection for this accomplishment. I wish you much luck as you start working on the prosthesis. It is amazing what they can do with those in terms, of engineering and medical accomplishments.
