I found out I was pregnant and didn't have good control for the first 4 weeks of pregnancy but once I found out I got very serious and checked my blood sugar at least 8 times a day. With the gel of my husband and. Wonderful and very strict doctor I gave birth to a healthy baby boy at 39 weeks(they wouldn't let me go past 39 and induced me with pitocin) and he weighed in at 3.3 kilos which is very very good!
You absolutely can have a healthy baby and an easy pregnancy even if you didn't start out well controlled but having a doctor that knows how to work your pump and manage the increase in insulin that you will need is the most important. A high risk OBGYN is ideal, not an endocrinologist.
Stay positive and shoot for a blood sugar of 120 an hour after meals, that's what I was advised and I never thought it was possible but I did it most of the time. Oh and you should be seeing your OBGYN every 2 weeks during the first and last trimester.
Good luck and stay positive.... And get some rest while you still can !
