I've been diabetic for 39 years, since I was 9 months old. My parents always kept the cake icing on hand and maple syrup rubbed on the inside of a cheek works pretty well, also. Now that I am older my treatment of choice is a liquid glucose shot sold at CVS pharmacies. The bottle is easier to open than the gel and it tastes way better than the tablets. Another good, easy to carry, staple is Smarties candy. One of the mini rolls is 15g of carb and the large discs convert like a glucose tab. They are usually cheaper than the glucose tabs and aren't as chalky.
