I understood your question, but I though the information might help.
The first thing that I would do is find out if you have to declare the purchased medicine coming back into the US. No one would want to spend time in a Mexican jail. I know some people do this with prescription eye wear, again I just don't know the answer for meds. Good luck in your quest.
