Default High blood sugar after vigorous exercise

So after I done a really heavy work out lots of straining with weightlifting and some cardio involved as well why is my blood sugar always so hot and I'm talking like in the 16 to 18 mmol/liter category. My doctor says it has something to do with the release of glycagone from my liver Does anyone have any insight into what's going on. I tend to crash a lot because I try to correct for the high blood sugar with insulin and obviously that's not the right thing to do
