depends on when - the lowest it should be is when you're fasting (i.e. when you first wake up in the morning).

it's fine to go up to 150mg/dL in T2s, but only postprandial (after you eat)

I read somewhere that it should never be above 180mg/dL

"normal" blood glucose is considered 70-130mg/dL at any time so the closer you stay to that range the better.

kind of scary as a T1 because I know I have numbers that fluctuate often from 30 to 300mg/dL but we're more volatile being completely dependent on insulin.

I think the main difference is that if I have an extremely high number, it comes down VERY quickly with a correction bolus of insulin (less than an hour). It's more important to spend as little time as possible in the highs. I think T2s have more of an issue with insulin resistance so their numbers need to be constantly "tighter" to reduce the time spent in the highs.
