It is grams of CARBS. (Not the "grams" as a weight measurement). As a diabetic you are primarily interested in counting grams of CARBS since this is the food group that will immediately raise your blood glucose levels. Protein, and Fats are the other two food groups and they do cause blood glucose to rise....but not as quickly and in different ways. For now...focus on getting good at "carb counting". This will be your saving grace
and allow you the ability to eat more of the foods you want.
