I'm Asian to ( Korean) with type 2 my diagnosis was 4 weeks ago on Friday. I saw a dietitian to customize my diet for me since I'm really active. As it turns out I'm already eating the way I should be and she said " I wish all my patients were like you". Anyhow as far as rice I switched to black rice check it out way healthier I think they also call it purple rice and forbidden rice. Also get with a dietitian they help tremendously hell I'm so active my carb allowance is 255g a day really the main thing is to get active. I weight train 3 days a week and run (cardio) 3 days a week. Before I was diagnosed I was running 50 or more miles a week I was a marathoner but my doc says that kind of mileage is not recommended and he wants me to put on 10 lbs of muscle. But don't think you need to work out for hours in the gym just a 45 min weight training regimen coupled with 20 mins of cardio ( that's not including warm up or cool down so really its more like 30 mins) is all you need and its every other day. Upper body one day, cardio day 2, lower body day 3, then cardio again just for six days and then you take a break. At six weeks change it up to total body one day and cardio the next just so you avoid plateauing and continue with gains. But my recommendation is see a dietitian.
