new to diabetes am I headed on the right path?
Hi everyone!!
I'm 30 years old and about 6 months ago found out I have diabetes. My doctor started me out on Metformin. twice a day.
I watch my sugar as much as possible. I try not to eat Sugars. However its extremely hard to eat something without ANY sugar. I find that if I eat something with 1 or 2 grams of sugar my numbers stay ok. I have been watching my sugars and my reading is about 107-118 before I eat. Two after after I ate (like tonight) I am at 133. This still seems high...doesn't it? I was due to go back to the doctor about a month ago (I forgot) and I am headed back to the doctor at the end of this month. Eager to hear what he has to say.
Its been hard to realize I actually have diabetes. I have been trying to diet (yes, I am overweight). The side effects I have right now are a burning sensation in my legs from time to time. Before I was diagnosed I would get the tingling sensation in my fingers after I ate high amounts of Sugar. However, now that I do not eat sugar that sympton has gone away for the most part. Anyone ever had this?
I read constantly on web forums how people lose limbs, go blind, etc etc. It scares the hell out of me. I'm 30 and want to live a long life with my family. I won't lie. I'm scared.
I just hope I'm on the right track...I know I still need to improve.
